IBM ILE and Open Source Toolkits
February 29, 2012
11:30 am to 1:30 pm
Please join us on February 29th for an extended two hour lunch session about ways to use Open Source Toolkits in the IBM Native Environment (ILE). See more info on our Website www.amcuatlanta.com. Please note that this presentation was previously scheduled for February 21st.
User Interface Technologies (UI) have been a major challenge for the IBM ILE Environment for more than a decade. Throstur Gudmundsson our VP of Education, will present his views about the merits of Open Web Technologies, and how they can help transform the ILE Environment into the modern world.
IBM is a big player in the Open Source Toolkits arena, and the following quote is taken from the IBM Websphere Website.
“With hundreds of proprietary and open Ajax implementations available, developers and architects are faced with yet another tough technology adoption challenge. The question is which Ajax platform will emerge as an enterprise standard. IBM has adopted the open-source Dojo toolkit www.dojotoolkit.org as its internal standard, is a key contributor to the Dojo project, and a committed member of the Dojo Foundation. The IBM commitments to the Dojo project include enterprise features such as internationalization, data binding, and accessibility support”
Throstur will demonstrate practical examples using the above Web Technologies , without using WebSphere, but instead connecting directly to ILE programs through the Apache Webserver that is already included in the basic IBM i software licences. RPG examples used in the session are compiled at V5R4.

Our good friends Jon Paris and Susan Gantner from Partner400 are quoted on their front page as saying “We were lucky enough to see a demonstration of Profound UI, and to say that we were impressed is to put it mildly”.
