What is modernization and which solution is best for your applications? This session will provide details on modernization and describe a variety of options available for System i.  It will cover numerous techniques and explain their differences. Examples using JAVA, CGIDEV, ASNA, WebSmart, PHP and LookSoftware will be presented.  Details of  procedural programming vs. event driven programming will be discussed and the roadmaps to follow when modernizing applications. The following will also be addressed:

  • What operating systems support modernization? Discuss OS release levels.
  • Skills required.
  • Some examples of how to go about modernization - demonstration of LookSoftware.

Darryl Freinkel has worked on the IBM midrange systems since 1982 beginning with version 2 on the IBM System/38. He has supported the IBM systems 34, 36 and AS/400 generations of hardware.  He has specialized on the IBM System i and ERP solutions. Over the past 5 years, he has designed, developed and implemented client server applications on the System i, using IBM’s Web Facing tool, ASNA, BCD’s WebSmart, CGIDEV and utilities, PHP and NewLook from LookSoftware as the User Interface(UI) RPG ILE using SQL replacing physical and logical files as the back end solution.  Darryl started developing client server applications in 2001. He continually considers new technologies and solutions.  Darryl is CEO of Assignment 400 Group, Inc. based in Marietta, GA.
